Coloring Tutorial, Vintage Flowers & Nursery Rhymes

Coloring Tips by Toni Johnson

I love the style by  Toni coloring my digi stamps and it is a pleasure to show you her work: Pencils seem to work quite well irrespective of the darkness of the card and the Derwent Inktense pencils are rich enough to give a good depth of colour as I found here...

...and the Derwent Coloursoft pencils also gave a nice effect...

...especially when keeping to a limited selection of colours and only shading parts of the image.

My preferred medium for colouring is alcohol pens and trying them on scraps of kraft card that I had really wasn't doing anything for me. The colour of the card was too dark for the pens to really be noticed. Then I tried Crafter's Companion Neenah card in the colour "Desert Storm". Wow, what a difference. The smoothness of the card is perfect for colouring with alcohol pens and the kraft colour is pale enough to allow the colours to show.

So I printed off some of the cute Grace Drayton images...

...and got stuck in...

...I did find that it was necessary to use stronger tones than I would normally reach for but it was so great being back in my comfort zone with my pens. What about this little cutie...

...isn't she adorable. Now if you look at this image you may think that I have used something white on the bib area. In fact, I used a very pale aqua shade (BT1) and I think the blue has toned down the yellow tinge of the card making it look almost white.

So You can`t miss these sets to play coloring:

 'How Does Your Garden Grow

' It. is the Theme-hosted by the lovely Brenda. I used a beautiful image from one of our regular sponsors, Nicecrane Designs and just added a bit of glitter to the butterfly, love these pre-coloured digital images, so easy to use. Yellow and blue isn't a normal colour combo for me but I rather like it...

Summer Girls

Tracy was working with my "Nursery Lamp" Sheet,,and here is her stunning card :This week is our lovely Mervi's turn to host and she would like to see 'Summer Girls' Here is what I did, I used a Nicecrane image (see below), and decided to papers with a vintage look to them to go with this sweet image. This image does remind me of my daughter as she was about three years old when we got her a kitten for her birthday, and that is just how she walked round holding the poor thing.

Giant  Hendeerson Card

And here is the amazing work by Jane,,,,woww, woww :My card today is inspired by my garden and uses one of Ignacio's wonderful roses printed images. This one is from the Henderson's blooms set available here

I decided to use some burlap to give it a real vintage garden feel. My granddad used to have sacks which he stored things gardening things in and even the smell of it transports me back to early childhood in my granddad's garden. Here are a couple of close ups

I added a vintage flower charm too.
